Parking

The Chaffey-Burke Parent Parking Patrol is reminding parents and students the importance of respecting all traffic rules and bylaws in the school area. The school was built many years ago, and not designed to accommodate the increase in vehicle traffic. Therefore, the responsibility of keeping all our students safe is shared by everyone in the Chaffey-Burke community. Please review the following:
1.       Walk whenever possible. If you do drive, please drop your child off earlier to avoid traffic jams at 9 am.
2.       Pick up/drop off your child in the designated areas only. Respect the “No Stopping” zone and do not stop your car in the middle of the street.
3.       The upper and lower parking lots are reserved for staff or special guests between 8:45 am and 3:15 pm. Do not drop off or pick up your child in these areas during these times.
4.       U-turns are illegal. Do not use the residents’ driveways to make a U-turn. Please drive through to the end of the street.
5.       Avoid traffic congestion and head north on Abbey Ave. The Sardis/Abbey corner can be dangerous with two-way traffic.
6.       Cross at designated corners and wait for the Parent Parking Patrol to escort you across the street. Do not jaywalk.
Any drivers violating the traffic rules and bylaws will have their license plate reported to the Burnaby RCMP for ticketing. If you have any questions, please call the school and leave a message. A member of the Parent Parking Patrol will return your call. Thank you for your cooperation.

Earthquake Preparedness Volunteers Urgently Needed

Dawayne Wurtz, Chair of our Earthquake Preparedness Committee, is desperately seeking parent volunteers to assist him in the event of an earthquake or another emergency while our children are at school. The school has an excellent plan in place, but we still need volunteers to work with the teachers/staff to help ensure our children are safe when disaster strikes. The situation in Haiti has shown us the importance of being prepared and having volunteers available. Please volunteer your time by calling Dawayne at 604-734-1045 or 778-385-1045.

If you have not yet returned your Earthquake Preparedness form to the office ($3/child or $5/family) please do so now.

We are all grateful no one was injured but the slow and expensive process of rebuilding begins. We are asking for help to assist this family in their time of need. Cash or cheque donations are gratefully being accepted at the school office. If writing a cheque please make payable to Chaffey Burke Elementary School and have the memo line read; family support. All proceeds will go directly to the family and all donations will be incredibly appreciated!

If you would like to donate furniture or a large a household item please coordinate donation/viewing/pick up with Kathie Cornell, Principal- copied here.
