Fundraiser

Your Chaffey-BurkePAC is offering two great fundraisers just in time for the holiday season: Klean Kanteen stainless steel water bottles and Cineplex movie tickets.

Both fundraisers were approved at the last PAC meeting and are part of our overall fundraising plan to offer parents a few select items for purchase during the year, in addition to our major fundraising event, e.g., the Walk-a-thon. Watch for more information about future fundraising events on our PAC website or in our newsletter.

If you are interested in purchasing the movie tickets or the water bottles, please complete the forms and return to the school office by November 3.

Both items make excellent gifts for children and adults, and will be delivered by the beginning of December, just in time for holiday giving.

Thanks for your continued support.

Trustee All Candidates Meeting - Wednesday, October 29th - 7:00 PM

On Wednesday, October 29, Burnaby DPAC will be hosting an all-candidates meeeting for those individuals running for school trustee. The sixteen candidates who are running for the seven school trustee positions in this election have been invited to attend. This is a valuable opportunity for the families in your school community to pose a question to this year's candidates.

In addition to questions from the floor, we would appreciate receiving questions from you by Sunday, October 19th, to assist with putting together a list of questions that could be used at this event.

You can send your question(s) to burnabydpac@yahoo.ca .

Thanks for your time and support. It is greatly appreciated.

Hope to see many of you and members of your school community on Wednesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM at Schou Education Centre.

PAC Meeting Minutes - October 2008

What a wonderful PAC meeting, thanks to all of you who could join us- Here are the minutes which were recorded by Nicole Geyer on behalf of our Secretary Elizabeth Moy who will be back for the November meeting. Thanks Nicole!

Watch for the next PAC newsletter which will have highlights of the PAC meeting, volunteer recognition, a note to gauge interest in additional programs like a Chess Club or a Computer Animation workshop and a tip or two on recess and lunch ideas that are healthy and easy to put together- all great ideas that came out of this meeting.

Continue to read the PAC board for complete details on community and DPAC activities and we look forward to seeing you all at the next PAC meeting where in addition to reports we will be reviewing a new playground concept and having guest Louise Rush who will help us determine the next wave of after school activities for our children at our school offered by Burnaby Parks and Recreation.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate and for everyone- may you have a safe and restful long weekend.

Today is Walk to School Day

IWALK DAY Wednesday, October 8, 2008

www.iwalktoschool.org

International Walk to School events raise awareness about the importance of walking for day to day journeys in our communities. This worldwide event encourages schools to organize fun walk to school celebrations for a day, a week or the entire month. Canadian schools have celebrated walk to school events since 1998. Forty countries on all six continents celebrated iwalk 2007. Here in B.C., 600 B.C. schools participated in every geographic region of the province.
International Walk to School events inspire the world to
  • Celebrate a full week of safe, active school travel
  • Provide opportunities to practice traffic safety skills
  • Reduce traffic congestion and emissions
  • Increase environmental protection
  • Get moving; be active
  • Connect with our communities
  • Have fun!
