Looking for few good men or women – PAC Election June 7

You don’t need to be a naval officer but you do need to be interested in getting involved at Chaffey. Are you looking for an excuse to get out of the house a few nights a year? If so, we’d like your name and number. We have several positions on our PAC up for election this year and we’re counting on a new group of parents to step up to these roles:

PAC Co-chair
Treasurer
Secretary
Two Members at Large

Please consider a role on PAC. The parents retiring from PAC this year have been involved for many years. We thank them for their invaluable contributions. Now is the time for parents with younger children at Chaffey to get involved. If we do not have these positions filled, it’s very possible that Chaffey-Burke will no longer have a PAC to support our children’s social and educational experience at Chaffey. That is not something we want to happen but we do need a few “good” parents to take action.

Please call Mary MacKillop (604.439.1671) or Elaine Dun (604.431.8895) for more information.

If you get a chance, drop by the park for a walk on the interim loop path and enjoy the tranquil setting before the open house.

Message from Burnaby DPAC

We really need your help! We have just a few more spots to fill and need help getting the word out to all parents. Please send to your Chairs and parent volunteers. Thank you.

Dear Parent Volunteers:
Thanks to so many volunteers who have come forward. We are in need of parent volunteers for the last few dates now. Would you be interested in participating at a school visit? Details can be found attached with the
list of times and dates. Please be sure to pass along this invitation to all the members of your SPC and any other parents. School visits give parents an excellent opportunity to network, see other best practices and a
fresh perspective. This is a great opportunity - which is available to all parents - to learn and share what is happening in another school. Please let us know ASAP which one(s) you would be interested in volunteering for.

Please send the dates you are available and your child(ren)'s school(s) to spc@burnabydpac.com.
Thank you.

Earthquake Preparedness Volunteers Urgently Needed

Dawayne Wurtz, Chair of our Earthquake Preparedness Committee, is desperately seeking parent volunteers to assist him in the event of an earthquake or another emergency while our children are at school. The school has an excellent plan in place, but we still need volunteers to work with the teachers/staff to help ensure our children are safe when disaster strikes. The situation in Haiti has shown us the importance of being prepared and having volunteers available. Please volunteer your time by calling Dawayne at 604-734-1045 or 778-385-1045.

If you have not yet returned your Earthquake Preparedness form to the office ($3/child or $5/family) please do so now.

Helping out a Chaffey Family in Need

As many of you may have heard, we have a Chaffey Burke School family who has lost everything from their home due to a tragic fire last week. We are all grateful no one was injured but the slow and expensive process of rebuilding begins. We are asking for help to assist this family in their time of need. Cash or cheque donations are gratefully being accepted at the school office. If writing a cheque please make payable to Chaffey Burke Elementary School and have the memo line read; family support. All proceeds will go directly to the family and all donations will be incredibly appreciated!

If you would like to donate furniture or a large a household item please coordinate donation/viewing/pick up with Kathie Cornell, Principal- copied here.

Thank you and please share this message to anyone who may be able to assist!

Community/Family Picnic - Friday Sep 11

Tomorrow Chaffey Burke Elementary will have its annual Community/Family Picnic, 12pm to 2:30pm. Children return to the classrooms they occupied this week at 2:30pm for any announcements, picking up school supplies they may have brought/used, and will be informed about Monday. Students are released at 3pm as usual.

Please meet your child/children at noon to have lunch together - blankets are often a good idea as the grass may still be a bit damp from yesterday’s rain.

Tables will be set up for your food item to share after lunch and if you are able to volunteer during this time with arranging tables of food and helping to direct families through buffet style lines, look for Nicole, Elaine or I and we will be able to direct you.

Enjoy the afternoon with your family and see you there!

On behalf of the PAC Executive,

Mary
